Team America Honors
Team America Honors is an integral program within the Team America platform. Team America Honors offers an opportunity to honor the best and brightest student-athletes, educators, and coaches. While athletic achievement is commendable and there are awards honoring those feats, there is currently no awards platform to recognize high school-aged students and student-athletes for exemplifying traits such as character, leadership, courage, integrity, resilience, and generosity — all traits that LaDainian Tomlinson embodied during his Hall of Fame career. Thus, criteria for the Team America Honors awards focuses on character, leadership engagement in the community, behavior, academics in the classroom, and, if applicable, athletic performance.
Initially, Team America Honors has awarded its scholarships during a banquet recognizing those outstanding student-athletes, most of whom came through our Tomlinson Center for Leadership program. Our goal is to continue to grow the Team America Honors program, making the annual scholarship awards pool larger than we have ever provided. We also want to be able to reach more people than our typical banquet-style setting has allowed us to do. Thus, Team America Honors will move to a television show format, with each award recipient being featured.
In 2021 Team America will add additional awards, including the of the Purple Jacket Club, a new prestigious affiliation of America’s top business executives whose personal and corporate advocacy for fostering an environment whereby all Americans are working and serving together in collaboration for the greater good is aligned with the positive, constructive vision of unity proliferated by Team America. Additionally, The inaugural LaDainian Tomlinson Award Presented by DAV will recognize one outstanding collegiate football player who (1) is actively engaged with volunteer and community engagement initiatives that serve our active duty military members or veterans and/or their families, (2) best represents the core values of DAV and Team America, and (3) whose service exemplifies the legacy of character and leadership embraced throughout his life and football career by Pro Football Hall of Fame member LaDainian Tomlinson.
A Closer Look
- The Team America Honors program has awarded more than $70,000 in scholarships over three years.
- In addition to providing college scholarships, Team America Honors also supports and funds the continued development of core curricula used as the foundation of the Tomlinson Center for Leadership programs.
- We understand that a four-year college is not the ultimate destination of all students. Therefore, Team America Honors scholarships can also be used towards enrollment and fees at technical colleges and community colleges.
- Our goal for 2021 is to award $100,000 to 30 student-athletes who accomplish exemplary achievement in character, education, and performance assessments and to whom the award would make a significant impact towards their ability to attend college.

“Being awarded a $5,000 scholarship has been a complete blessing with my college situation. I enrolled at Angelo State University, a Division II program that does not offer full athletic scholarships. With the addition of this scholarship paired with my partial athletic scholarship I will be able to graduate with no student loans or debt. This has been a huge blessing to me and my family, as paying for the remaining debt out of pocket would be very difficult. With this scholarship there is no need to worry about finding the money to pay for college, and this eliminates the need for student loans.”
