Giving Thanks With LT
Each year since he’s been retired, LaDainian Tomlinson, his wife, LaTorsha, and his family provide 2,100 Thanksgiving meals to local families in Fort Worth, the home of his alma mater TCU. It’s a tradition they brought over from San Diego, when they did a similar outreach during his NFL career.
“Thanksgiving was a big time in my family when we got to be around the table with uncles and cousins. It was really just about fellowship and loving on each other,” LaDainian said. “I do know in this community, it’s needed. There are a lot of people who go to bed hungry. So even if it’s just one day we can do this… that’s what it’s about. It’s the look on their faces. They are so appreciative. You don’t forget it.”
In addition to turkeys, Tomlinson and his corporate partners provide all of the fixings for a Thanksgiving feast, allowing 2,100 families from the area to give thanks on a day when we all come together over food, fellowship, and hope for the future.
A Closer Look
- More than 24,000 Thanksgiving meals have been provided in Fort Worth and San Diego by the Tomlinson family
- In Texas, Team America has partnered with TCU and the Fort Worth ISD, along with Mayor Betsy Price and the city of Fort Worth, for meal distributions
- Team America and Albertson’s have had a long-term partnership in feeding families in Forth Worth, with Albertson’s and its employees not only helping to provide the meals, but also helping to distribute them to families
